Sakonnet 23: Design Section. Boat built by Edey and Duff.
A simple boat to sail.
Sakonnet 23 is built one boat at a time, ensuring exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail and the best materials in every boat. Sakonnet 23's foam-cored hull is constructed of hand-laid unidirectional E-glass and polyester resin. This makes an extremely stiff and light boat. And, with additional foam under the decks, Sakonnet 23 is virtually unsinkable.
Sakonnet 23 is a simple boat to sail and enjoy. With a moderate sail area/ displacement ratio, narrow 6-foot beam and light displacement, Sakonnet 23 easily reaches hull speed in light as well as moderate winds. Her low center of gravity combined with a 920 pound bulbed keel and ballasted centerboard ensure a safe, comfortable sail. Sakonnet 23's uncluttered deckplan is equally simple. The main and jib halyards run through rope clutches to a winch aft of the mast; the jib sheets lead back to port and starboard winches and cam cleats. The centerboard trunk barely rises above the floorboards. And, with just enough teak trim to accent her low, distinctive lines, Sakonnet 23 requires little maintenance.
